UTSA fiscal services adds fee to credit card payments
(Nov. 10, 2003)--Effective Nov. 10, UTSA adds a 1.855 percent charge to credit or debit card payments made online or in person to UTSA fiscal services.
The new UTSA fee comes at a time of increasing expenses, coupled with decreasing financial support from the state. The only exception to the new fee is a credit card payment made in the form of a gift to UTSA.
Only credit card charges processed by the university include the new fee. For example, UTSA services such as the bookstores operated by Barnes and Noble and the Chartwells food services do not add the fee.

Section 54.5011 of the Texas Education Code was amended recently to allow universities to recover administrative fees (or discount fees) resulting from credit card payments.
In fiscal year 2003, UTSA paid $500,970 in discount fees, and this is projected to increase in fiscal year 2004.
