The regents also authorized planning for a $75 million research and classroom building -- to be located on the east side of the 1604 Campus -- and an additional $13 million in infrastructure projects related to the building.
The $13 million in infrastructure projects includes $8 million for a link between the east and west sides of campus and a north-south connecting road between UTSA Boulevard and Loop 1604 access roads. Also included in the infrastructure plans is $5 million for an east-campus thermal plant.
Construction for the connector road project is expected to begin summer 2004 with completion scheduled by fall semester 2005, according to Charles Lampe, director of facilities planning and development. Other projects will begin by fall semester 2005.
