UT Austin scholar to speak on independent media
(Nov. 18, 2003)--The UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts and the Department of Communication present renowned international communication scholar John D.H. Downing speaking on "The International Independent Media Center Movement" at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19 in Business Building Room 3.04.18 on the 1604 Campus.
The lecture, to be delivered in a distance learning lecture hall, will be broadcast to Frio Street Building Room 2.518 at the Downtown Campus. Questions and discussion will follow the talk.

Downing is a John T. Jones Jr. Centennial Professor of Communication in the UT Austin Department of Radio, Television and Film.
His books include "Film and Politics in the Third World" (editor), "Radical Media: Rebellious Communication and Social Movements," "Questioning the Media: A Critical Introduction" (co-editor), "Internationalizing Media Theory: Transition, Power, Culture" and "Reflections on Russia, Poland and Hungary, 1980-95."
