UTSA to host Nov. 14 panel on Ciudad Juarez murders
(Nov. 10, 2003)--UTSA will present a panel discussion, "The Murdered Women of Juarez," at noon, Friday, Nov. 14 in Business Building Room 2.01.06 at the UTSA 1604 Campus. The event is free and open to all.
The panel discussion about the murders, subsequent investigations and human rights in Latin America is sponsored by the UTSA Institute for Law and Public Affairs, Women's Studies Institute and Graduate Political Science Society.

Panelists include Pablo Vila, UTSA associate professor of sociology; Jennifer Mathews, Trinity University assistant professor of sociology and anthropology; and Sister Laola Hironaka, Amnesty International-United States country specialist.
Over ten years, more than 300 women were murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Investigations show the deaths came after torture and sexual violence committed over days during which the women were held captive. Many of the crimes remain unsolved.
