UTSA Downtown Campus group helps spread cheer to children who are ill
(Dec. 11, 2003)--Staff members from the UTSA Office of K-16 Initiatives, Lowell Middle School students and Santa Claus presented holiday presents and decorations Dec. 6 to children at the Ronald McDonald House at 227 Lewis Street.
San Antonio ISD's Lowell Middle School Hispanic Mother Daughter Program coordinated the community service project.

Presents included hand-crafted holiday stockings, DVD movies and a DVD player. Additionally, Santa visited Santa Rosa Hospital in downtown San Antonio to bring cheer to children who are ill.
The UTSA Hispanic Mother Daughter Program, sponsored by the Office of K-16 Initiatives, provides academic enhancement, college information and family support for program participants to support and encourage the successful participation of Hispanic women in higher education by targeting middle-school girls and their mothers.
The objectives of the program are to provide leadership training, academic support and career exploration to maximize students' potential for success in college, promote positive communication skills and develop decision-making skills.
