UTSA student art show continues at Gallery 357

(Dec. 16, 2003)--The UTSA Student Art Guild exhibit, "Surfaces," continues through Dec. 19 at George Yepes' Gallery 357 at the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. The juried exhibition of recent works by graduate and undergraduate student artists includes 71 works.

Pictured is "Womb II," an oil/mixed media painting on birch panel by Steven DaLuz. The painting is on display at the "Surfaces" exhibit.

Tom Willome, an art professor at San Antonio College, selected 71 pieces out of nearly 200 submitted by UTSA art students for the show. The largest category, by far, was in paintings with 34 pieces including the work selected as Best in Show, "In the Red Scene" by Michael Transfiguracion.

Transfiguracion was also recognized for his painting, "Walking Thru Pat." Laura Treio received top honors in the sculpture category with "HEB Sundress," and Brandi Davis received an award for her photograph, "High Hamster on St. Charles."

The top two pieces in each of the six categories (ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture) were recognized, along with the single Best-in-Show honor.

Gallery 357 hours are 4-7 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 2-5 p.m. Saturday.
