Devin Brown jersey retirement set for Feb. 12

(Feb. 10, 2004)--The all-time leading scorer in UTSA history, Devin Brown, will have his No. 23 jersey retired Feb. 12 at the UTSA Convocation Center before the Roadrunners' game with Louisiana-Monroe that is set to tipoff at 8 p.m.

Brown's jersey is the first ever to be retired by the UTSA basketball program. The first 1,500 people at the game will receive a free commemorative poster for the event.

Currently a member of the San Antonio Spurs, Brown was an All-Southland Conference player at UTSA from 1998-2002. The San Antonio native also holds the distinction of being the top all-time scorer in San Antonio high school history while at South San West Campus High School.

While at UTSA he scored 1,922 points over a 105-game career. His 751 rebounds ranks third all-time at UTSA, while his 184 steals rank No. 2.
Brown posted 20 double-doubles in points and rebounds during his Roadrunners career. He is the only UTSA player to record a triple-double, with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists versus Louisiana-Monroe on Feb. 17, 2001.

He earned numerous accolades during his UTSA career, including being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 9 team twice, and the College Hoops Insider magazine Mid-Major All-American Team. He was the 1999 SLC Newcomer of the Year when as a freshman he helped lead UTSA to its second NCAA Tournament appearance.

Following his collegiate career, Brown signed as a free agent with the Spurs during the early part of the 2002-03 season and saw action in seven games before being released. From there he earned Most Valuable Player honors in the National Basketball Developmental League for the Fayetteville (N.C.) Patriots. After playing in three games for the Denver Nuggets at the end of last season, Brown re-signed with San Antonio this season and has been a valuable addition for the Spurs.
