UTSA New Music Series showcases '70s works
(Feb. 24, 2004)--The UTSA Department of Music presents three large-scale, emotionally charged and moving works from the 1970s in the final concert of the 2003-2004 UTSA New Music Series at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Arts Building Recital Hall on the 1604 Campus.

The concert features music by Dimitri Shostakovich, Stephen Albert and Olly Wilson performed by UTSA faculty members Diana Allan, soprano; Allyson Dawkins, viola; and Michael Burgess, tenor.
The program includes Shostakovich's final composition, "Sonata for Viola and Piano;" Stephen Albert's "To Wake the Dead," an extended song cycle setting parts of James Joyce's "Finnegan's Wake;" and Olly Wilson's "Sometimes," a sonic exploration of the spiritual "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child."

The concert will be preceded by a talk at 6:30 p.m. on Albert's "To Wake the Dead" and Joyce's "Finnegan's Wake," moderated by Catherine Kasper, UTSA associate professor of English, and David Heuser, UTSA associate professor of music.
