UTSA architecture students build education with bricks and mortar

(March 12, 2004)--UTSA's School of Architecture recently hosted "The Masons Are Coming!" -- an annual event at the Downtown Campus that gives students a first-hand look at construction with stone and bricks.

Architecture students gathered around as masons explained the sturdiness of stone material and its significance in building structures.

There also was the opportunity to help build a brick structure during the four-hour event.

The event is sponsored by the Masonry Society, a professional, technical and educational association that advances knowledge of masonry, and the San Antonio Masonry Contractors Association, a national trade association of contracting firms.

Both organizations recently endowed a scholarship for UTSA architecture students.
