UTSA presents Mozart's opera 'Marriage of Figaro' March 26 and 28

(March 24, 2004)--The UTSA Deparment of Music Lyric Theatre and Orchestra present Mozart's opera "The Marriage of Figaro" at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 26 and 3 p.m., Sunday, March 28 in the Arts Building Recital Hall on the 1604 Campus. William McCrary directs the production with the orchestra conducted by Gene Dowdy and the English translation by Marcie Stapp.

"The Marriage of Figaro" was first performed in 1786 with music by Wolfgang Mozart and libretto by Lorenzo di Ponte. The classic opera tells the story of Figaro, once the barber of Seville, who anticipates his wedding to Susanna.

Marcellina, to whom he owes a debt, and the loathsome Doctor Bartolo challenge Figaro's plans. Figaro is diverted by these conflicts and does not notice the interest of Count Almaviva in his fiancee.

Tickets are $12, general admission; $8 for students, military and seniors age 55 and older.
