UTSA Web face-lift adds features

(March 19, 2004)--The UTSA Web home pages recently received a face-lift. While most navigation remains the same, the pages are now more colorful and contain highlighted Web site profiles. Space is also available on the pages for more news and bulletin-type information.

Initially released in August 2003, the new design is part of an ongoing effort to polish and extend the design and features of the Web pages.

"Consider this as version 1.5," said graphic designer Thomas Palmer. "The purpose of this redesign is to add more life to the pages and deliver more customized information."

The utsa.edu site has rapidly become the primary information source for university programs and services. In a comparison study of February 2003 and February 2004, there has been a 25 percent increase in unique visitors to the utsa.edu Web site. Additionally, applications to establish Web sites have increased 18 percent since January.

The next phase will incorporate more content-driven navigation rather than the current list-style approach.

"The current navigation has served us well in the past," said Joseph McBride, UTSA's webmaster. "But with the continued growth of university Web sites, the list has become burdensome to our audiences."

As always, comments and suggestions about the Web site are encouraged.
