In moving the programs, nonprofit courses will be housed within one unit. The Nonprofit Management Program, a certification program which provides training in nonprofit management and leadership for practicing nonprofit professionals, is also currently housed within the Department of Public Administration.
The American Humanics Program is an alliance of three Texas universities and a number of nonprofit organizations that prepares students for careers with nonprofit agencies.
"Students will have an unparalleled opportunity to gain real-world experience through curriculum and activities," said Sandie Palomo-Gonzalez, senior program coordinator for the Nonprofit Management Program. "Our ultimate goal is to give students an opportunity to choose a career that truly makes a difference and give them the ability to give back to the community."
Courses in the nonprofit management minor will be offered by the Department of Public Administration beginning Fall 2004. Students from any discipline are invited to pursue the minor which prepares students for leadership positions in social service, community, youth, environmental, medical, arts and other nonprofit agencies.
