UTSA, congressman host art competition

(April 23, 2004)--The UTSA 1604 Campus is the site of the 23rd annual Congressional Art Competition and National Exhibition at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24 in the John Peace Library Regents' Room (4.03.12).

The event is hosted by U.S. Congressman Henry Bonilla, and United Parcel Service (UPS) and Southwest Airlines are this year's co-sponsors.

Students in the 23rd Congressional District were invited to participate. The winning entry will receive a $3,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Other awards include $350 from UPS and three round-trip Southwest Airlines tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend an Artistic Discovery event where the student's artwork will be displayed.

"This is an excellent opportunity for students across the 23rd district to show off their talent and creativity," said Bonilla. "I look forward to seeing some of their artwork hanging in the halls of the U.S. Capitol."
