Alumnus of the Year: Alicia Trevino
Alicia Trevino graduated from UTSA in 1986 with a B.F.A. in architecture. A leader in her field and a partner in San Antonio architectural firm DHR Architects, Trevino is a life member of the UTSA Alumni Association.
She earned the 2003 Texas Society of Architects Caudill Award for Young Professional Achievement, an award chosen from a field of more than 5,000 Texas architects. Distinguished Service Award: North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce board
The Distinguished Service Award goes to individuals, alumni or others who have made significant contributions to the UTSA Alumni Association or UTSA. Duane Wilson, president and CEO, will accept this year's award for the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
In late 2003, delegates from the North Chamber board met with UTSA President Ricardo Romo to discuss how to best provide public support for the university. For their first project, they looked into the needs of the Downtown Campus. Realizing additional land and facilities were needed, the North Chamber delegation developed a task force to broker a deal between the City of San Antonio and UTSA.
The work of the North Chamber helped produce a land acquisition that will double the size of the Downtown Campus and continue the university's high-speed growth. The expansion area will house a new facility for the School of Architecture to make the program the largest in the UT System and the second largest in the state.
The land acquisition will further revitalize the area surrounding the campus and empower UTSA in the upcoming legislative session to compete for bonds for building projects.
