UTSA names assistant vice president, student services
(June 21, 2004)--The University of Texas at San Antonio recently named Sam Gonzales assistant vice president for student services.
Gonzales takes over the post after serving as interim assistant vice president for more than a year. Prior to his position as interim AVP for student services, Gonzales served for seven years as UTSA director of career services.

"Sam is an exceptional leader who has a tremendous passion for UTSA and our students," said Rosalie Ambrosino, UTSA vice president for student affairs. "His enthusiasm and expertise make him an excellent choice for this important role."
As AVP of student services, Gonzales will oversee campus recreation, career services, counseling services, disability services, health services, the women's resource center and the TRIO/Gear Up programs.
Gonzalez, who earned a master of education degree at Our Lady of the Lake University and was a Kellogg Fellow in education policy at UT Austin, has nearly 28 years of service at UTSA, joining the institution in November 1976, after three years as director of student financial aid at Our Lady of the Lake.
He served as assistant director and director of student financial aid at UTSA, and then became director of student employment and internships.
An active member in both community and professional organizations, Gonzales has served as president of both the national Cooperative Education and Internship Association and the San Antonio College and University Placement Association.
He was an adviser for the Rotaract Club, recipient of the Club of the Year award, as well as chair of the United Way campaign and the Baumberger Foundation financial aid committee.
