Literacy and technology program prepares teachers for inner-city schools
(July 26, 2004)--The UTSA College of Education and Human Development is at the forefront, teaching education students the latest in field strategies and techniques.
Just ask Misty Sailors and Lucretia Fraga, UTSA interdisciplinary studies and curriculum development professors who designed the Literacy and Technology Learning Community (LTLC) program for students interested in teaching reading and writing at inner city elementary schools.
"Our goal is to graduate confident and competent beginning teachers who can teach in inner city schools," said Sailors.

The program, which is based in elementary schools in the Harlandale Independent School District, is designed for UTSA undergraduate students enrolled in the early childhood-grade 4 certification program.
Participants learn strategies for using technology to teach reading and writing to children in low-income neighborhoods. The program also allows students to gain experience through the guidance of university faculty and school teachers in a group environment.
