
South Texas high school teachers in UTSA program
Summer course trains teachers in computer skills
(July 14, 2004)--The UTSA Department of Computer Science is helping teachers learn the latest in software technology with a month-long instructional program on the 1604 Campus.
This year, 37 teachers from 16 South Texas school districts are enrolled in the program through July 2.

The program, now in its fourth year, allows teachers to gain hands-on experience with various computer software programs including Microsoft Photo Editor, Netscape Composer and Macromedia DreamWeaver and FireWorks.
"I think it's a great opportunity to keep up with technology," said Luis Catala, a biology teacher at Highland High School. "I feel comfortable enough with this software to work with my fellow teachers and guide them through the Web design process."
Jennifer Eggleston, a computer science teacher from West Campus High School, is discovering creative ways to organize textbook materials and link to Web sites so she can keep her students motivated next year.
UTSA received a Texas Workforce Development grant to cover tuition, fees and housing for teachers residing outside San Antonio.
