UTSA hosts conference on infrastructure protection

(July 16, 2004)--The UTSA Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) hosts the Texas Infrastructure Protection Symposium Aug. 5-6 at the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28) on the 1604 Campus.

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, is keynote speaker for the event.

More than 300 participants from government, industry and education are expected to attend the national symposium to discuss communication and information-sharing issues involved in protecting the nation's critical infrastructure.

The symposium includes presentations by Robert Liscouski, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; Suzanne Gorman, chair of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center; Maj. Gen. Paul Lebras, commander of the Air Intelligence Agency and Joint Information Operations Center; Art Fierro, Homeland Security Information Network - Critical Infrastructure (HSIN-CI) and Ron Newman, South West Emergency Response Network.

The symposium includes breakout sessions on intrusion detection, wireless security, information hiding, information sharing, national guidance resources, and legal and policy issues.

Registration through July 21 is $250 and after July 21 is $300. Discounted registration is available for InfraGard members, ISSA members, government staff members, and UTSA employees and students.

The registration fee includes meals during the symposium and one ticket to Fiesta Texas. A discounted rate at the Omni San Antonio Hotel is available. The event runs 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Aug. 5 and 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Aug. 6.
