Texas pioneer era comes to life at ITC
(July 7, 2004)--Experience firsthand life in the days of the covered wagon by learning about shelling corn, taking lessons in a one-room schoolhouse and scrubbing clothes with a washboard.

"Texas Trails and Tales," an interactive exhibit highlighting pioneer life in Texas will be June 22-Aug. 7 on the Back 40 of the Institute of Texan Cultures. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
"This is an ideal opportunity to see life as it was in the 1800s," said Karen Sanchez, Back 40 educational coordinator. "Hands-on activities and demonstrations by costumed docents give visitors insight to early Texas life."
A special feature of "Texas Trails and Tales" will be a military camp demonstration, slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 7. A Confederate soldier and a Union soldier will demonstrate weaponry and discuss military life during the Civil War.
The exhibit is included with ITC admission: adults, $7.50; seniors (65 years and older), $4; military personnel (ID required), $4; children 3-12 years of age, $4; children 2 years of age and under, free.
