Texas Conference for Women offers day of inspiring speakers

(July 14, 2004)--Women across Texas can use the Internet as their online ticket booth for admission to the fifth annual Texas Conference for Women, set for Oct. 19 at the Austin Convention Center.

Students can download a conference scholarship application at the Texas Conference for Women Web site. The scholarship application deadline is July 15.

Online early registration is $90 until Sept. 1, and $100 after Sept. 1. Student registration is $50.

The daylong event, hosted annually by Texas Gov. Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Perry, will feature more than 75 speakers leading seminars in more than 20 sessions designed to educate and inspire. With attendance expected to exceed 5,000, this year's conference will offer increased seating capacity in each of the seminar sessions.

"Each year, the Texas Conference for Women grows not only in size, but in excitement," said Anita Perry. "This conference brings together a fantastic mix of speakers and participants with diverse interests and talents. Rick and I encourage everyone to mark their calendars, organize a group of friends to attend and take advantage of the convenience of and savings from early online registration."

Last month, the Texas Conference for Women announced the expansion of its annual scholarship program, sponsored this year by BP, which now includes six $5,000 scholarships for qualified Texas women. Applicants must be studying at institutions of higher education in Texas in the areas business, education, math and science, arts, public service and nursing.

This year's featured speakers include Valerie Morris, co-host of CNN's "Flipside;" Sara Martinez Tucker, president of the National Hispanic Scholarship Fund; Court TV host Catherine Crier; Irene Navidad, president of the Global Summit of Women; and Fox News correspondent and "Fox and Friends" co-anchor E.D. Hill.
