The program includes two soprano arias from the choral works of J.S. Bach sung by UTSA faculty member Melody Rich. The arias from "The Magnificat" and "Es halt' es mit der blinden Welt" from "Cantata # 94" are with oboe d'amore obbligato. The oboe d'amore is an instrument pitched between the oboe and the English horn, which was used extensively by Bach in his choral works.
In addition to works by Karl Lickl, Reinhard Luttman, Gabriel Faure and Sergei Rachmaninoff, the recital will feature "Variations on 'Amazing Grace'" for English horn and organ by Calvin Hampton. The work was written for Thomas Stacy, solo English hornist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
