Frequently Asked Questions
What are the hours?
9:30 - 5 p.m. each day. The Downtown Campus students need to meet earlier
to board the buses as stated in their emails.
What are we going to do at this event?
There will be several activities during Rowdy Days. You will have the opportunity
to attend sessions on academic life, student life, learning communities, the
CAP program, athletics, international programs, academic success, as well
as participate in team building exercises with fellow students. There will
be additional sessions in the afternoon such as Greek Recruitment for Women
(Pre-registration is required: http://www.utsagreeklife.com),
information about music programs, housing and finding your classes. You will
also meet with your college or major area of study.
Did I sign up for this?
No, it is for all incoming freshmen and freshman transfer students. You are
sent an announcement automatically.
Are there night events for non-traditional students?
Not at this time. Once the semester begins, however, there will be special
sessions offered to non-traditional students.
Do I have to stay the whole day?
It is suggested that you stay the entire time to reap the benefits of the
program. Please discuss this with your leader to let them know if/when you
need to leave.
What about if I can only attend one day?
If you are in the Honors Kick-off on Monday, please join us on Tuesday. If
you have extenuating circumstances, those can be handled on a one-on-one basis.
Do we meet at the same place on Tuesday morning?
Tuesday, we will meet outside the Convocation Center on the East Lawn in and
around the tents between 9:30 and 10 a.m. There will be guides to lead students
to meet with their colleges. Undecided majors will meet with the Tomas Rivera
Advising Center staff. The students meeting at the Downtown Campus, will board
buses around 8:30-9 a.m. to return to the 1604 Campus except for those in
the School of Architecture and College of Public Policy. Architecture students
will meet in the Frio Street Building Riklin Auditorium (1.406) and College
of Public Policy will meet in the Buena Vista Street Building Theater. Students
majoring in those areas will remain at the Downtown Campus and join the rest
of the students by bus later for lunch. The buses will return to the Downtown
Campus around 3 p.m. each day.
Do we bring anything like pen, paper, or money?
On the second day, you will need to bring a copy of your class schedule so
that we can assist you with finding your classes at both the 1604 and Downtown
Campuses. Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Please avoid bringing
backpacks and purses. You do not need to bring money for any of the event.
Lunch is provided both days as well as an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday afternoon!
Are there any fees for this?
There are no fees to attend Rowdy Days.
Where do we park?
Park in any space that is designated for student parking. Do not park in any
spot that is marked Handicapped (unless you have a sticker), 24 Hour Reserved,
Faculty/Staff A or B. There is student parking in front of the Convocation
Center and another lot off to the side. As the lots fill up, you will need
to park further away, but be sure that you are in a Student Parking Lot. Shuttle
service will be available from campus housing, nearby apartments (check UTSA's
housing website for a list), and parking lots farther from campus. Even if
you don't have your parking permit yet, there will be no ticketing on Monday
and Tuesday as long as you park in a student spot. Downtown students should
park in the Durango Loop parking lot if they have not received or purchased
their parking permits. If students have their parking permits, they can park
underneath I-35 between Durango Boulevard and El Paso Street. Students attending
the Downtown Campus will meet at the Frio Street Building Commons Area. Tuesday
morning, the downtown students can repeat the process, except for the School
of Architecture and College of Public Policy students who will remain on campus
until later.
Where is the Convocation Center?
The Convocation Center is the tall brown building that is directly across
from the Recreation and Wellness Center at the 1604 Campus. From I-10 W, exit
UTSA Boulevard and take a right on Edward Ximennes. At the first stop sign,
the Convocation Center will be in front of you and to the left.
When can I purchase my books?
The bookstore will be open 8-5:30 Monday thru Thursday and 8-4pm on Friday
for you to purchase your books.
