Romo and his wife, UTSA Associate Professor Harriett Romo, went to Cuba this summer for a weeklong conference on Latino literacy involving more than 400 international participants.

"We were fortunate to be able to go to Cuba, considering the new travel restrictions," said Romo. "We visited elementary schools, which aren't often seen by foreigners. I was able to walk throughout the city and meet people who were very warm and engaging."

Curated by photographer and UTSA art consultant Arturo Almeida, "Havana" is accompanied by a group show of photographs by Almeida, renowned local photographer Rick Hunter and international artist/photographer and UTSA alumna Kathy Vargas.

Hours of the Joan Grona Gallery, 112 Blue Star, are 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, noon-4 p.m., Sunday or by appointment.
