UTSA Orchestra to present lunchtime concert Oct. 7
(Oct. 6, 2004)--The UTSA Orchestra conducted by Eugene Dowdy will present a free concert at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7 on the Sombrilla Plaza at the 1604 Campus.
The orchestra will perform Richard Wagner's grand overture to his opera, "Die Meistersinger," W.A. Mozart's "Symphony No. 38, Prague" and Verdi's "Grand March" from his opera, "Aida."

Dowdy is chair of the Department of Music and the founding violinist of Rio Trio, UTSA's faculty piano trio. He earned a doctor of musical arts degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Iowa under James Dixon, a master of music degree from UTSA and a bachelor of music degree with a performance certificate in violin from UT Austin.
He taught at the University of Texas String Project under the tutelage of Phyllis Young and taught orchestra for nine years in San Antonio's Northeast ISD.
In 2001, he was one of three UTSA faculty recognized by the Alumni Association for outstanding teaching. In addition to being the resident conductor of the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, Dowdy is an active guest conductor and clinician at regional orchestras, festivals and contests throughout Texas and the Midwest.
