Upgrade brings changes for UTSA e-mail users

(Oct. 20, 2004)--Changes are being made to UTSA network to upgrade the operating system on UTSA's central servers as well as the Microsoft Outlook e-mail application, according to the UTSA Office of Information Technology.

The project began in September and continues through December 2004.

The changes are necessary because Microsoft is discontinuing support of older software versions. In addition to the software upgrades, UTSA staff and faculty members will see changes in their network login IDs and e-mail accounts.

The new login IDs will change from the current "first initial, last name" format (jdoe@utsa.edu) to the new "first name.last name" format (john.doe@utsa.edu).

But, don't panic! Even though the new-format e-mail addresses will be phased in over the next few weeks, your current e-mail address will remain valid until December 2005 -- allowing a year for changes to business cards, publications and address-change notifications to colleagues and associates.

In order to make the transition easier, staff and faculty members will be notified before their accounts are changed.
