Roadrunner hoops squads preview season with Saturday exhibition games

(Nov. 12, 2004)--The UTSA men's and women's basketball teams will get their final exhibition tune-up Saturday, Nov. 13 when they host Schreiner and Texas A&M-Commerce in the Convocation Center.

The women's game tips off at 2 p.m. against Texas A&M-Commerce with the men following against Schreiner at 4 p.m.

For the women it will be their second exhibition game, with UTSA losing 63-61 to the Houston Jaguars on Nov. 1. In that game, UTSA placed four players in double figures, highlighted by Katie Sandefur's 10-point, 14-rebound double-double. Nicole Dunson led the Roadrunners with 16 points, while Kim Reed added 14 and Lyndsey Greer, 10. Dunson connected on four 3-point field goals on the night.

The UTSA women will open the regular season on Nov. 19 at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, with tip-off at 7 p.m. See the full women's schedule

The defending Southland Conference regular season and tournament champion UTSA men's basketball team will be playing in its only exhibition game. Coach Tim Carter will get a chance to see how his eight returning lettermen can mesh with six newcomers on the floor for the first time.

Senior guard Rapheal Posey is UTSA's leading returning scorer from last season when he averaged 11.4 points per game. The Southland Conference "Freshman of the Year" last season, Kurt Attaway returns to run the Roadrunners attack. Attaway averaged 7.4 points per game a year ago and led the team with 105 assists. Other returning starters include guard David President, center Anthony Fuqua and forward John Millsap.

The UTSA men will tip off the 2004-05 season on Nov. 21 with a home match-up against Texas-Tyler at 2:30 p.m. See the full men's schedule
