
Dancers perform at Sombrilla Plaza
International Education Week features performances
(Nov. 12, 2004)--The University of Texas at San Antonio will celebrate International Education Week Nov. 15-19 with performances, games and discussions slated for each day of the week.
The week, which celebrates education for a global society, begins with cultural performances from around the world at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at Sombrilla Plaza. Ballet Folklorico is the first performance, followed by martial arts, mariachi and flamenco demonstrations.

The African Student Association and a group of Japanese students will celebrate their respective cultures at Sombrilla Plaza beginning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16. Later that afternoon at 3:30 p.m., students are invited to play "Around the World in 80 Minutes," a game modeled after TV's "The Amazing Race." Winners will be awarded prizes.
At noon Wednesday, Nov. 17, an intercultural communication alliance panel will discuss "The Commonalities We Share" at Sombrilla Plaza.
Following the panel discussion, Viviana Rojas, an assistant professor in the Department of Communication, will present "Culture Clips: Looking at Cultural Differences through Contemporary Film." The discussion will look at film clips from the last 20 years and focus on clashing cultures. The Culture Clips presentation will be at 3:30 p.m. in Main Building Room 0.326. The following day, Rojas will give the same presentation at 11 a.m. in Frio Street Building Room 1.402 at the Downtown Campus.
To cap the week's events, the French film "Chocolat" will be showing at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 in the University Center Willow Room (2.02.12).
