Charitable campaign nears Nov. 19 deadline

(Nov. 5, 2004)--For the 10th consecutive year, UTSA has teamed with the Bexar County United Way Association to help raise money in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) for agencies that provide crucial social services and community programs for local residents.

"We have only two more weeks until the end of the campaign on Nov. 19, and donations are coming in slowly," said Patti Cutler, 2004 SECC chairperson and assistant vice president for budgets and financial planning. "UTSA has been so pleased with the way the community has stepped up to help us raise scholarship money for our students. Now it's time for us think about returning the favor and help meet the needs of our community."

As an added incentive this year, UTSA Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey has pledged to give two tickets for a UTSA basketball game to anyone who contributes to the SECC.

In the last several years, total contributions from UTSA employees have gone down with a dismal 17 percent participation rate last year

Staff can contribute online at the United Way Web site, use paper pledge forms for payroll deduction or make a contribution by cash or check. To keep accurate records, all employees are asked to return their donation envelopes by Nov. 19 to their respective departmental representatives.
