UTSA debaters snag fourth place at Texas Tech tournament
(Dec. 2, 2004)-- In its inaugural season, UTSA Roadrunner parliamentary debate team finished fourth out of 48 teams in a tournament hosted by Texas Tech.

Sophomore Mark Este and junior Erin White partnered to place third in the junior division, while freshman Michelle Gomez and senior Valerie Funkhouser-Broderick claimed fourth place in the same division. Este finished the competition third among all speakers, falling just two points shy of first. Meanwhile, White and Funkhouser-Broderick finished fourth and eighth, respectively.
Holly Smith, Raj Das, Farhan Rana and Philip DiPiazza were competing in their first tournament, helping UTSA to wins against teams from Texas Tech, Truman State, Cameron, Oklahoma City College, Western Washington, Sul Ross State, Odessa and Rice.
UTSA debaters will begin their spring schedule in back-to-back cross-examination tournaments at North Texas and UT-Dallas Jan. 4-10.
