McDonald named SLC women's cross country Student Athlete of the Year

(Dec. 2, 2004)--University of Texas at San Antonio junior Ashley McDonald has been named 2004 Southland Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Wednesday.

McDonald has compiled a 3.82 grade point average in accounting and has made the Dean's List each semester at UTSA and the National Dean's List in 2003 and 2004. McDonald also was listed in Who's Who Among American College Students.

Athletically, McDonald placed eighth at last month's Southland Conference Cross Country Championship meet, helping the Roadrunners to a third-place showing. She ran the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:05. During the regular season, McDonald was twice named SLC Athlete of the Week.

In the San Antonio community, McDonald is a member of the Golden Key International Society and she is a volunteer for the UTSA Women's Walk Scholarship Fundraiser and UIL Region 4 Cross Country meets.

The student-athlete of the year is presented annually to the individual in each conference sport who achieves excellence in academics, athletics and community/campus service. Nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to go along with superior athletics achievement.
