UTSA Satellite Space painting exhibit explores bullfighting
(Jan. 7, 2005)--The UTSA Satellite Space presents "Verb," an exhibit of paintings by UTSA graduate student Jerry Cabrera, from Jan. 28-Feb. 13. An opening reception, free and open to the public, is 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3.
Cabrera's M.F.A. exhibition examines cultural issues of the bullfighting tradition. According to the artist, removing the subjects (the bull or matador) from the event focuses on the active beauty, or verb, found in the movement of the cape. Additional works in the exhibition respond to motion and color abstracted from the cape paintings.
