
Board approves UTSA master's in communication
(Feb. 15, 2005)--The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved a UTSA master of arts degree in communication.
The master's program, which starts in the fall 2005 semester, is based on integrated communications with a focus on developing broad perspectives in research, critical thinking and creativity. Master's candidates can either complete 15 credit hours of core courses and nine credit hours on a thesis or project, or 15 credit hours of prescribed electives.

Applicants for the program must meet standard university-wide admission requirements as well as three program-specific requirements:
- Submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test
- Provide two letters of recommendation from academic sources with the option of an additional letter from an academic or a professional source
- Provide a statement, 500-750 words in length, of the applicant's goals and objectives and how the UTSA master's degree in communication will help to achieve them.
Program courses run the gamut from new media design to international and intercultural communication.
Applications are currently being accepted for the fall semester only with priority admission given to applications received by May 1. The deadline for admission is July 1, and the priority deadline for financial aid is March 31.
