UTSA celebrates Homecoming 2005 Feb. 21-27

(Feb. 21, 2005)--UTSA President Ricardo Romo (pictured at left) donned his Homecoming 2005 T-shirt last week to encourage the UTSA community to participate in this year's activities. Official T-shirts and posters are available at the University Center information desk for only $5 each.

UTSA students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear the official T-shirt or other orange-and-blue apparel this Friday, Feb. 25 -- Spirit Day.

Best-dressed door and office contest begins

The Campus Activities Board's best-dressed door and office contest officially kicks off homecoming week today. Faculty and staff are encouraged to decorate their doors or departmental offices as part of the homecoming festivities. For offices that signed up to compete Friday, Feb. 18, judges are looking for those with the most UTSA spirit, creativity and use of the homecoming theme -- "X marks the spot -- 35 and Soaring!"

Relax with a little jazz in the plaza

Enjoy a casual evening, cafe-style, with Jazz in the Plaza at the Bill Miller Plaza, UTSA Downtown Campus, from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23. Listen to live jazz music by Small World and enjoy light snacks, flavored coffees and teas. Those present are eligible to win two roundtrip tickets to any Southwest Airlines destination. If there is inclement weather, the event will move inside to the Buena Vista Street Building Assembly Room (1.338). The event is free and open to the public.


Golf Cart Parade is Wednesday

The Homecoming Golf Cart Parade is a UTSA tradition. Everyone is invited to the 1604 Campus Sombrilla Plaza at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 23 to check out the parade carts.

New homecoming tradition, Rowdy Rampage, is Thursday

Join the entire UTSA community at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at the UTSA Track on the 1604 Campus for Rowdy Rampage. Rowdy Rampage is the newest tradition at UTSA. A night pep rally with fireworks and a live band, Rowdy Rampage is sure to become the best homecoming tradition. Bring the entire family, blankets, lawn chairs and picnic food as we light up UTSA for an event to remember.

Hit the links Friday at La Cantera

Sign up for golf Friday, Feb. 25 on the Palmer Course at the Westin La Cantera Resort. A continental breakfast is served at 9 a.m. in the clubhouse, followed by a 10 a.m. tee time. Golfers can play as individuals or as part of a foursome. Cost is $90 per person.

Life member salute and former student leader reception is Friday

Join us Friday for a very special evening honoring our Alumni Association Life Members and Former Student Leaders of UTSA. At this reception, connect with former students and friends, while enjoying an evening of music, light food and beverages. The reception is 6-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25 at Oak Hills Country Club. Cost is $20 per person. There is a cash bar.

Lace up your running shoes -- Diploma Dash is here

Join us for a morning of fitness, food, beverages and music at the Diploma Dash Saturday, Feb. 26 on the 1604 Campus. Registration is at 8 a.m. The race begins at 9 a.m. The race is open to all runners, walkers and casual strollers. Cost is $20 per person before Feb. 23 and $25 on race day.

Meet the parents Saturday

The UTSA Family Association meeting and reception is 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26 in the University Center Mesquite Room (2.01.24) on the 1604 Campus. Meet and connect with family members of UTSA students. This will also be an opportunity to learn about the Family Association. Light food and beverages will be served.

Hoop it up with Roadrunner basketball Saturday

Get ready for the games at the Rowdy Tailgate Party from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26 in the University Center first floor. There will be free Bill Miller BBQ and student organization performances. The local band Rune performs from 5 to 6 p.m. There will be free Rowdy tattoos and face painting to get everyone ready for the games.

The Roadrunner men's and women's basketball teams face the Texas-Arlington Mavericks. The women's game begins at 3 p.m. with the men's game starting at approximately 6 p.m. at the Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus. Come watch the Southland Conference Champion Roadrunners defend their title. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. UTSA students get in free with UTSACard.
