UTSA tech support services conducts network forums

(March 24, 2005)--The UTSA Office of Technology Support Services (TSS) will conduct two forums for faculty and staff members to discuss development of the UTSA computer network.

The first session is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, March 29 in Buena Vista Street Building Room 1.338 at the Downtown Campus. The second forum is 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, March 30 in the University Center Laurel Room (2.01.28) at the 1604 Campus.

Each forum will begin with a discussion by TSS Director Charlotte Colbert of the university's current network capabilities and initiatives involving Local Area Networks (LANs), wireless computing, Internet2 and the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN).

This will be followed by a Q&A session and the opportunity to offer suggestions for the design of future UTSA networks.

"We anticipate that some UTSA computer users may need higher bandwidth capabilities as well as greater connectivity with collaborative institutions," said Colbert. "We encourage the UTSA community to provide input on their computing resource requirements. This will be a critical component of the forums."

Faculty and staff members who cannot attend a session can offer their suggestions to Anthony Espinoza, UTSA senior network analyst, at (210) 458-4555.

For more information, contact Charlotte Colbert at (210) 458-5886.
