UTSA Spotlight: UTSA Associate Professor Fred Bonner named ACE Fellow

(May 27, 2005)--Fred Bonner, associate professor in the UTSA Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, has been selected to participate in the 2005-2006 American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program.

Bonner is one of 40 college professors and administrators selected to participate in the program. He also is one of only 16 minority candidates selected for the 2005-2006 program.

Bonner holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of North Texas, a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Baylor University and a doctorate in higher education administration and college teaching from the University of Arkansas.

The ACE Fellows Program provides its members with seminars, workshops and hands-on experience in university leadership roles. The program aims to develop the future chief executives of the nation's universities. Participants work closely for a semester or year with a college or university president in the decision-making process.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the program has involved 1,495 participants since its creation. Many in the program have gone on to become presidents, vice presidents or deans at institutions of higher learning.
