UTSA maintains 8-to-5 schedule for summer

(May 18, 2005)--UTSA will keep its offices and services open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday this summer instead of adopting a modified summer schedule.

In previous years, UTSA implemented a four-and-a-half-day work week during the summer to save money by using less energy on Friday afternoons.

"As UTSA continues to grow -- in programs and enrollment as well as in stature -- it is important to make certain that students and other stakeholders of the institution have access to all campus services during regular business hours for the entire year," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. "As more offices need to stay open to provide essential services, the actual monetary savings that the university once realized through the use of a special summer schedule have practically evaporated."

All university offices are expected to be open and fully functional 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, if areas want to approve "flex" time for employees to work a different schedule, they may do so with approval from their dean, vice provost or vice president, and as long as all offices are sufficiently staffed and fully operational during regular business hours.
