Texas Folklife Festival poster unveiled at Institute of Texan Cultures

(May 6, 2005)--The 2005 Texas Folklife Festival commemorative poster, the 25th in a series, was unveiled at a May 5 ceremony at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures. The event was sponsored by the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter and Riverwalk hotels.

Designed by San Antonio native Allison Gregory, the poster gives Texas flavor to la loteria, a game of chance played throughout Mexico that is similar to Bingo but uses pictures instead of numbers.

"Late one night, I thought about my seventh grade Spanish class which played la loteria and I began to draw my own version featuring the infamous cowboy boot, a longhorn and a guitar," said Gregory. "This is the perfect design to represent the Texas Folklife Festival, which celebrates our many Texan cultures and ideals."

The 14-by-24 inch, signed, limited-edition poster can be purchased for $50, or unsigned for $20. This year's and previous years' posters can be purchased on the Texas Folklife Festival Web site and at the ITC Store. The poster design also is featured on T-shirts that can be purchased at the festival.

Visitors of all ages are invited to savor the flavors of more than 150 ethnic foods, 10 stages of world music and dance, and plenty of fun for the whole family June 9-12 at the ITC in downtown San Antonio.

Children will delight in the zany performances of the Side Street Circus, while adults will enjoy sampling wines from around the world at the New World Wine and Food Festival tent.

Discount adult tickets (13 and older) are $8 and children's tickets (ages 6-12) are $4 and can be purchased through June 1 on the Texas Folklife Festival Web site.
