UTSA names assistant dean of undergraduate studies

(June 2, 2005)--The University of Texas at San Antonio has named Linda Chalmers to the position of assistant dean of undergraduate studies. Chalmers will report to Lawrence Williams, UTSA associate vice president for academic support and undergraduate studies.

In the new role, Chalmers continues to supervise the Office of Transitional Student Advisement Services, including the transfer advising and technical support teams.

She assumes additional responsibilities as the university articulation officer and supervisor of the university's participation in the National Student Exchange. As articulation officer, Chalmers is the UTSA contact person with other institutions concerning 2+2 transfers and other articulation agreements.

Additionally, Chalmers continues responsibilities in professional development and training for academic advisers regarding the Banner information system and the Curriculum Advising and Program Planning (CAPP) program.

She will work on special projects within the Office of Academic Support and Undergraduate Studies, including the automated prerequisite checking project that begins operating fall 2005. In developing this important new feature of the student records system, Chalmers coordinated efforts between academic departments, the Office of Information Technology and many other UTSA offices.

Chalmers formerly served as UTSA executive director of advising. In this position, she was instrumental in establishing the college advising centers and setting standards and guidelines for academic advising.

"Now it is appropriate to use Linda's talents in new ways to help the university achieve its goals to promote quality undergraduate education and to improve the academic success of our undergraduates. We appreciate Linda's achievements and contributions to UTSA, and we wish her continued success in this new position."
