PREP seeks mentors to work with young students
(June 7, 2005)--The San Antonio Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP) is hiring program assistant mentors to work with middle and high school student participants through July 29. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 10.

The pay rate varies depending on sponsor, college level, major and previous PREP experience.

San Antonio PREP is an academically intense, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program designed to develop abstract reasoning and problem-solving skills. PREP identifies achieving middle school and high school students with the potential to become scientists or engineers and reinforces them in pursuit of these fields.
The program presented over three summers. PREP expects to serve more than 1,400 students in PREP 2005. Located at most college and university campuses throughout San Antonio, the programs operate from June 13 to July 29 and include course work, team projects, class presentations, field trips, special events and examinations.
Each mentor will monitor and work with a group of 20 students, attend classes and laboratories with the students, assist instructors and students, supervise research and study, maintain student records and assist in special activities. Mentors who work past July 29 will help prepare a final report.
Mentors must have completed at least one year of college and be enrolled in college with a 2.5 or better G.P.A. Preferred qualifications are completion of advanced mathematics courses and experience working with adolescents. Mentors must be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 7-July 29. Preference is given to college science, mathematics, computer science, or engineering majors; previous PREP participants and former PREP employees.
