(July 29, 2005)--UTSA Student Health Services and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will sponsor a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, August 1 in Frio Street Building Room 1.402 at the Downtown Campus.

Anyone 17 years or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good, general health may donate blood. All donors must present photo identification. Donors should eat at least four hours before their donation and drink plenty of fluids, such as water and fruit juice, before and after donating. All donors will receive a free t-shirt.

Every three seconds someone needs blood. About 500 donations are needed daily to meet the needs of patients in South Texas hospitals. When separated into its four components, one donation can save as many as four lives.

For more information, contact Student Health Services at (210) 458-4142 or Vanessa Gonzales, South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, at (210) 415-1208.
