The center, which showcases best practices in early childhood education, is operated by San Antonio Independent School District and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Parents can register their children from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 29 at the UTSA Downtown Campus Frio Street Building Commons.

The Early Childhood Center opens mid-October for three- and four-year-old children who meet the following eligibility requirements: age 3 or 4 by Sept. 1 of the current school year, unable to speak or comprehend the English language; and/or educationally disadvantaged; and/or homeless.

Parents must bring the following information to register: child's birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records, Social Security card, current proof of income, current proof of residency (utility bill).

The mission of the center is to provide children with the developmental skills necessary to create a strong foundation for future success through a collaborative effort with families, communities and related agencies.
