Food needed for hungry families in San Antonio
By James Boullosa
Academic Adviser, Colleges' Freshman Advising Center
(Dec. 1, 2005)--The UTSA Colleges' Freshman Advising Center (CFAC) is assisting the San Antonio Food Bank to collect food items to make local families' dinners more plentiful during the holiday season.
With much of its food needed for victims of hurricanes Rita and Katrina, the Food Bank could use the UTSA community's help to feed the hungry in the San Antonio community.
Through noon Dec. 16, the CFAC is accepting donations of nonperishable food at its office, Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 2.02.18, on the 1604 Campus.

Donations will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Freshmen are encouraged to bring food items to their academic advising/registration sessions. Faculty and staff donations also will be gladly accepted.
According to its Web site, the Food Bank needs these items most: peanut butter, chili, canned soups, canned luncheon meats, full meals in a can or box, tuna, beans, rice, macaroni and cheese, and pop-top food items. Frozen and perishable items cannot be accepted.
Recently, a CFAC advisor went shopping for one of each item listed above to see how much it would cost… just $10. Think of it, for only 10 bucks -- the price of a ticket to a movie -- a local family can have an entire meal this Christmas! But, if you're feeling particularly generous this season, CFAC staff members challenge you to see how far you can make $10 go toward helping your neighbor.
So, come on and show your Roadrunner -- and holiday -- spirit by helping the CFAC support the San Antonio Food Bank and donate as much as you can. The need is urgent, and the cause is just.
