Deja snow? Flurries come to Downtown Campus

(Jan. 27, 2006)--Dozens of students at the UTSA Downtown Campus Wednesday afternoon tossed their backpacks on the ground and put their school books aside for a little fun in the snow.

Under blue skies and near-70-degree temperatures, they laughed and screamed while sprinting under flurries spewing out of a snow-making machine and throwing and dodging snow balls.
The "Blizzard in the Plaza" is part of an effort to bring interactive events for students to the Downtown Campus, said Keith Pilger, student activities program coordinator.
"The purpose of the event was to provide something different, something new for the Downtown students," Pilger said. "Being from the Midwest, I have come to realize that snow is a novelty in South Texas."
Last week, students at UTSA's 1604 Campus enjoyed a similarly chilling experience to welcome the start of the spring semester.
