(Jan. 13, 2006)--UTSA's Nevil Shed, a member of the 1966 Texas Western Miners National Championship basketball team, will attend the local premier of "Glory Road," a Disney film about the team.

Nicknamed "The Shadow" during his Texas Western playing days, Shed will be at the Santikos Silverado 16 Theater at 7 p.m., Jan. 13 to sign autographs, followed by media availability at 7:15 p.m. and a screening of "Glory Road" at 7:35 p.m. He will have both the Glory Road trophy and memorabilia from the 1966 Miners championship squad.

A New York native, Shed has lived in San Antonio and worked at The University of Texas at San Antonio for the past 25 years. He currently is student program coordinator at the UTSA University Center.

The Disney movie, "Glory Road," opens in theaters nationwide Jan. 13 and tells the story of the 1966 Texas Western National Championship Men's Basketball squad.

Shed was an integral part of the champion Texas Western squad that became legendary when the Miners started an all-black lineup against an all-white lineup in the NCAA basketball finals -- a first in college basketball history.

The team members were recognized as pioneers throughout the country for opening doors to every college, university, classroom and arena, many of which had never before recruited black basketball players.
