(March 24, 2006)--UTSA Police Chief David Hernandez said today UTSA police detectives have uncovered information confirming that missing UTSA student Naomi Fuentes is alive and well.

Fuentes, who was last seen on the UTSA Downtown Campus on Sunday, Feb. 19, left Texas of her own free will and is currently in a safe location out of state.

Hernandez said that UTSA police detectives followed leads after recovering a suspicious telephone number within the scope of their investigation. Follow-up on the telephone number proved to be the piece of evidence leading to today's announcement.

"I cannot tell you where Ms. Fuentes is, but I can tell you that we know absolutely that she is safe, and she left town of her own accord," said Hernandez.

Hernandez went on to thank the UTSA Police Department, the San Antonio Police Department and the FBI for their untiring efforts over the last 34 days to bring the case to a close. No charges are being filed at this time.

In a statement, UTSA President Ricardo Romo acknowledged the outstanding work of the UTSA Police Department and the support provided by many members of the UTSA community to Fuentes' family and friends.
