(April 28, 2006)--The UTSA Department of Music presents "Fiesta Under the Stars: Fiesta Mexicana" at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 28 on the UTSA 1604 Campus. The event is an official Fiesta San Antonio event.

Because of the possibility of rain, the catered dinner will be served at Sombrilla Plaza, but the performance and silent auction will be in the Arts Building Recital Hall.

The annual fundraiser, which benefits music scholarships, will feature the music of Mexico and popular Mexican American music including canciones rancheras, Tejano, mariachi and serenatas in English and Spanish.

Soprano Linda Poetschke will perform along with the Three UTSA Tenors, UTSA Mariachi Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and Concert Choir.

Among other selections, the UTSA Orchestra will perform "Sinfonia India" by famed composer Carlos Chavez, the Three UTSA Tenors will sing "Granada," and the UTSA Mariachi Ensemble will perform "Las Mañanitas," "Cielito Lindo" and other Mexican folk songs.

The event will include a silent auction sponsored by Southwest Airlines, AT&T, the Westin La Cantera hotel and the Menger Hotel. Silent auction items include 2 Southwest Airlines tickets, a full-color display ad in the 2006-07 San Antonio yellow pages paid by AT&T, a stay at the Westin La Cantera, one night's stay at the Menger Hotel and original artwork by Omar Rodriguez.

Admission at the event is $8 -- participants can bring lawn chairs and their own picnic. For reserved seating and supper by Rosemary's Catering, admission is $30. For reservations, call (210) 458-4357.
