UTSA, Rep. Gonzalez host 20th District art awards

(April 21, 2006)--U.S. Rep. Charles Gonzalez presented awards for the annual Congressional District 20 high school art competition in a ceremony this month at the UTSA Downtown Campus.
Fox Tech High School student Andres Rea earned first place for his artwork, "Mirror Image."

Other award winners were Michael Larque (second place), Thomas Jefferson High School, for "Insanity Rising;" Samantha Rivera (third place), Brackenridge High School, for "Self Portrait" and Kristen Guemes (fourth place), Thomas Jefferson High School, for "Self Portrait."
The judges for the competition were UTSA art collection curator Arturo Almeida and local artists Adriana Garcia and Susan Straus.
The first-place award includes round-trip airfare for three to Washington, D.C., provided by Southwest Airlines and scholarship money provided by UPS. Additionally, the first-place winner's artwork will be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol.
