(May 12, 2006)--Jennifer Ehlers, UTSA director of admissions, was recognized by her peers April 23 at the annual spring conference of the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC) in Corpus Christi.

The Founders' Award, established in 1986 by the TACAC Executive Board, recognizes members whose contributions to the association and the profession are exemplary of exceptional talent and devotion to students. The honor is bestowed to only one member each year.

Ehlers was surprised when she received the award at the opening banquet. "Considering what the award recognizes, I am extremely honored," she said. A past president of TACAC, Ehlers joined UTSA in 1997 as associate director of admissions for recruitment.

George Norton, UTSA assistant vice president for admissions, explained that the honor was well deserved. "Jennifer's work with TACAC has played a major role in setting standards for how we do student recruitment in Texas and in building partnerships across the state." He added that the name of the award is particularly fitting because Ehlers was one of the organization's founders.

This is one of four awards that TACAC presents annually. UTSA's Hope Young, associate director of admissions, won the Rising Star Award in 2003.

TACAC, with more than 2,000 members, is an organization of high school counselors and college admission counselors committed to advancing the cause of access and equity in American higher education.
