(July 13, 2006)--Student Katrice Collazo recently was elected president of the UTSA Student Alumni Association by her fellow members to head the group for the 2006-2007 school year.

A political science major, Collazo attributes her fellow members' trust in her as the reason they voted her president. Though she will be a full-time student this year, she already has plans for the association.

"I do want to push for more recruitment and more involvement in the Student Alumni Association," Collazo said. "I want people to know it's a really great association to be in." She also plans to create more association events and get students in the residence halls involved in the group.

According to Collazo, she wants to clear up a misunderstanding some students have about the organization -- the members are current students and not graduates who came back to be in the group.

A graduate of MacArthur High School in San Antonio, she has had ambitions to be a lawyer for a number of years. Collazo plans to graduate from UTSA in May 2007 with a B.A. in political science and legal studies. Then, she hopes to be accepted into a major Texas law school.

Collazo credits much of her success to her UTSA political science professors, and says that graduating from UTSA is a major accomplishment to put on a law school resume. She also thanks her parents for pushing her to achieve her goals and roommate Crystal Ford, who she calls her "adviser" while taking classes.
