By Barry McKinney
Associate Director of Student Activities

(Aug. 28, 2006)--The second annual Rowdy Wing Fling is set for 6-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 30 at the Chaparral Village and Chisholm Hall Activity Center Plaza on the 1604 Campus. The Rowdy Wing Fling is a campus-wide event that raises awareness of alcohol misuse and abuse.

Free buffalo wings and other snacks will be available.

Students will have an opportunity to simulate the effects of alcohol by completing an obstacle course with special goggles to simulate intoxication. Additionally, student organization members will participate in a "mocktail" contest with prizes for the best concoctions.

Two bands will headline the event: Open Chapter, a rising local rock band, and Waking Ashland, dubbed one of the break-through bands of 2005. Upbeat, and energetic, Waking Ashland, a genuinely honest rock band that will appeal to fans of Jimmy Eat World. The SHADES drama group will perform educational skits.

Sponsors of the event include Housing and Residence Life, Student Judicial Affairs, Student Activities, UTSA Police Department, Student Health Services, Campus Activities Board, Alcohol EDU, the UTSA Alcohol and Other Drug Programming Committee, and SHADES.
